Welcome to our new SENDCo - Claire Jefferies
22nd January 2019
We are welcoming Claire Jefferies as SENDCo to the school, she has been a SENDCo since 2007 and has experience of working in both primary and secondary schools, working with a range of special needs. She is dyspraxia herself so has a real empathy for what it is like to be a child with additional needs. She is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and is committed to making our provision excellent!
On a personal level she loves baking and we are all looking forward to our birthday cakes!
Greetings Parents and Carers,
This is my first message since joining you at the Steiner Academy Exeter, and hopefully the start of a regular input to the newsletter. In the 3 weeks since I started, we have already created the first comprehensive Provision Map that Steiner Academy Exeter has had, enabling us to see properly the level of SEN in each class, across the school. This will enable me to redeploy our Learning Support Assistants (previously known as TA's) to meet the needs of your children and start formal interventions which will happen at regular timetabled slots.
We are also introducing Individual Education Plans for children with Special Educational Needs, and you will be invited to attend meetings with the class teacher to go through these plans by half term, so that you are involved in the planning process and you know how we are supporting your child with their learning.
Training in the role of the LSA has already begun, and Teachers and LSAs will be supported to write the IEPs and deliver the interventions with training being delivered over the course of the term. We will be working at a fast pace to make sure that our provision for SEN is fit for purpose as soon as possible. It has been lovely to meet as many parents as I have already and will be happy to meet with you if you are concerned about us meeting your child's needs, I am scheduling a regular Monday and Thursday appointments list which I will make available to meet with you, so that I can have the time to make the changes needed, whilst still meeting with you, whilst we are in transition.
